Mtr (my traceroute) is a command line network diagnostic tool that provides the functionality of both the ping and traceroute commands. It is a simple and cross-platform tool that prints information about the entire route that the network packets take, right from the host system to the specified destination system. Linux Command Line (mtr)⌗ What follows is the typical output from mtras found in the Linux package. This tool sends many more packets than other tools sending multiple packets to each hop in order to gather accurate network data. This tool used an icmptraceroute while the following uses a UDP based traceroute. MTR also has a User Datagram Protocol (UDP) mode (invoked with "-u" on the command line or pressing the "u" key in the curses interface) that sends UDP packets, with the time to live (TTL) field in the IP header increasing by one for each probe sent, toward the destination host. When the UDP mode is used, MTR relies on ICMP port unreachable $ mtr 192.168.12.34 $ mtr google.com.
